A rare 18th Century Country Elm Tripod Table with bird cage action. With a two piece top, turned stem and unusual shaped legs and to the base.

Contemporary inventories indicate that tripod tables were constructed from a variety of timbers, but due to the susceptibility of Elm, Fruitwood, and Walnut examples to damp conditions and insect attack, few have survived.

Excellent rich colour often associated with Elm and in very good condition having just a later catch and a small amount of old woodworm to the top block.

A rare survivor of early 18th-century English country furniture.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries or to request additional photos.

Legs twisted and bent but this only adds to the charm of this quirky piece of country furniture. Some signs of historic woodworm but all the joints are solid and structurally sound.
