Superb 17th Century Box Seat Lancashire Armchair.

Description
An outstanding and rare Lancashire Oak Box Seat Armchair.
This generous and bold chair has a shaped, carved and pierced cresting rail. This rail having incised initials T W M. which sits between the back legs finished with a pyramid finial. A large back panel, carved with a central carnation, with smaller flowerheads and scrolling leaves. The single plank lift up seat with original hinges. Well shaped arms on gun barrel turned supports.
Excellent colour and surface and lovely dry wainscot oak behind.
This armchair comes with a sales receipt from 1950 which states it was previously on show in Wordsworth’s birthplace Cockermouth.
