A truly magnificent carved 17th century settle of a grand and imposing size.
The top rail caved with a scrolling vine leaves, peacocks, flowers and seed pods.
Four landscape panels above four portrait panels all carved with stylised flowers, leaves and seed pods, typical of furniture from the Bradford, Halifax and Burnley area.
Well shaped arms standing on turned arm supports leading to a superbly patinated lift up seat.
The base with a row of panels carved with lozenges, scrolling pendants and hatching decoration, again typical of the area.
All framing scratch moulded and of a pegged construction.
Having just later hinges and the bottom boards replaced this settle is in remarkable original condition for a piece of 17th century furniture of this scale.
